about me
I still have a copy of one of my first stories. It’s written in a yellow-green colored pencil which is woefully similar to the background (and, I believe, sealed away any possibility of being an art director). I called it “Mr. Linden’s Library.” I was unaware that the title was already taken. It contained rather unimaginative prose, remarkably little formal experimentation, a dirth of character, motive, or message. I wrote, simply, a description of something wonderful I had conjured in my mind’s eye: an ancient, endless case of books.
A dozen creative writing workshops have (somewhat) remedied those issues of style, voice, and structure. I know how to present, how to handle criticism, how to identify a good idea, and how to give solid feedback. Most importantly, I know creative work takes an immense amount of courage. In 2022, I debuted an original play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding projects I’ve ever undertaken. Still, much can be gleaned from “Mr. Linden’s Library.” It is as pure a work as can be crafted—wholly intuitionist, utter joy at creation.
I come by the advertising trade honestly. My mom is an agency art director/CD, so while I was raised on Treasure Island and Jane Eyre, she also showed me the likes of “Got Milk,” Volkswagen’s “Pink Moon,” and Anheuser Busch’s “Real American Heroes.”
In my free time, I relentlessly pursue ideas. You can find me, on various evenings and weekends, sticky tabbing my books to hell, taking a mini DV camera out to the Flint Hills, or watching Unseen Cinema on Kanopy. I seek knowledge with fervor, and love others who do the same.
